Künstlerstätte Schloss Bleckede / Artist-in-Residence

Call for applications

Deadline: 29/09/07

Since 1979 the Kuenstlerstaette Schloss Bleckede has been seeking to promote young artists who explore innovative positions in the field of contemporary fine art. Today artists, whose work addresses complex aesthetic, cultural or political issues, rarely find the necessary support to realize their ambitious projects. This is why the Kuenstlerstaette Schloss Bleckede wishes to offer these artists the opportunity to develop their work in the course of a residential scholarship of three or six months.

The Kuenstlerstaette Schloss Bleckede offers ideal working conditions. The historic remise of the castle of Bleckede has been restored and transformed into three studios, each of which provides an extensive work space and a comfortable living area. The castle is located in the nature reserve Elbufer Drawehn close to the river Elbe between Hamburg and Lueneburg. Moreover Hamburg and Berlin is within easy reach, both of which have a thriving cultural life. The scholarship includes a monthly grant of Euro 1.400,- , which is made available for up to three scholarship holders at any one time, by the state of Lower Saxony. Previous scholarship winners have included reknown artists like Ulla von Brandenburg, Shannon Bool, Geoffrey Hendricks, Peter Pommerer, Katharina Sieverding, Maki Tamura and Simon Wachsmuth. The residential scholarship will be selected by a jury.

The call for applications is open to all artists of all nationalities. Application forms, criteria and more information are available at http://www.kuenstlerstaette-bleckede.de

The concepts they want to investigate can be grouped in two main fields:

- technological or material application/developments: most of the researches in this section deal with architecture and urban issues: domotics (DORLET), interactive urban furniture (IMAR), environmental architecture (GRUPO SARKIS / LAGUNKETA), transformable architecture (LANIK), or health emergency in public spaces (FUNDACIÓN IKERTIA).

In the special case of EiTB (Basque Radio and Television), the artist(s) is requested to research into the documentary format based on the creation of an audiovisual work dealing with all the collaboration projects.

The submitted proposals will be examined by an international jury comprising Cecilia Andersson, Bronac Ferran, Jose Pérez de Lama and Juan Mari Uzkudun. The final decision will be taken by the hosting entities and will be communicated at the end of October 2007.

DISONANCIAS gives priority to the involvement of artists:
- interested in working around the interaction between different social and cultural systems and projects that favour group work;

The call is open to artists working with any type of medium and in any discipline, either individually or as a group. There is no limit on age, nationality or place of residence.

The selected artists or group of artists will each receive the amount of 8,000 net euros as a fee for the work carried out and for their travel and accommodation costs. The Creative Capital | Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant Program

The Creative Capital | Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant Program

Apply online starting: August 6, 2007

Deadline: September 12, 2007

http://www.artswriters.org

Initiated by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and administered by Creative Capital, the Arts Writers Grant is a three-year pilot program designed to support critical writing on contemporary visual art through project-based grants issued directly to individual authors. The first program of its type, it was founded in recognition of both the financially precarious situation of arts writers and their indispensable contribution to a vital artistic culture. Through awards for books, articles, short-form writing, and work in new and alternative media, the Arts Writers Grant aims to honor and encourage:

- Writing about art that is rigorous, passionate, eloquent, and precise

- Writing about contemporary art in which a keen engagement with the present is infused with an appreciation of the historical

- Writing about art that is neither afraid to take a stand, nor content to deliver authoritative pronouncements, but serves rather to pose questions and to generate new possibilities for thinking about, seeing, and making art

- Writing about art that is sensitive to both the importance and difficulty of situating aesthetic objects within their broader social and political contexts

- Writing about art that does not dilute or sidestep complex ideas but renders accessible their meaning and value

- Writing about art that challenges creatively the limits of existing conventions, without valorizing novelty as an end in itself

Approximately fifteen to twenty grants will be awarded per annual cycle, ranging from $3,000-$50,000. Art historians, artists, critics, curators, journalists, and practitioners from other fields that engage contemporary visual art are welcome to apply.

The Arts Writers Grant will open for on-line submissions on August 6, 2007. The deadline for grant applications is September 12, 2007.
