The Scope Pavilion
Lincoln Center
Damrosch Park,
Corner of 62 Street and 10th Avenue

Scope hunts down that most endangered of species: the emerging artist. Both moving target and elusive chameleon, Scope’s 65 participants capture this exotic breed in their roving crosshairs. Challenging passive viewing with 25,000 square feet of open-range, Scope New York exposes visitors to a real-time survey of the contemporary art world available nowhere else.

Building on last year’s success, which broke all sales and attendance figures for an alternative art fair, Scope New York 2007 is proud to announce its new location: a 25,000 square-foot pavilion at New York’s most famous cultural icon, Lincoln Center. Situated in Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park, at the corner of 62nd Street and 10th Avenue, Scope New York is just blocks from the Armory Show.

Scope New York returns for its sixth-straight year with its new location. Featuring galleries from four continents and 20 countries, including China, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Brazil, Italy, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Germany, UK, Spain, and Canada, Scope New York 2007 is the most internationally diverse fair to date. Scope’s sixty-five international exhibitors will uphold its unique tradition of one-person and thematic group shows presented alongside museum-quality programming, collector tours, screenings, and special events. The fair opens daily at 10 AM.

Continuing its mandate to redefine what an art fair is, this year’s Scope New York will take advantage of its unique location with special projects by Scope exhibiting artists. Visitors to the fair will be embraced and initiated by roving performers, sound and video pieces interspersed throughout the fair. Nestled atop a snow blown “mountain,” viewers can seek sanctuary in a veritable hunting lodge, where art stars, icons and iconoclasts interview each other and warm to a crackling fire.

CAC INTERVIU “the quarterly conversation about art” is a bilingual (Lithuanian & English) interview based publication — also containing editorials, book reviews, and an artist’s project — focused on covering the Baltic region with a view to topical events that impact on art produced internationally. Distributed via direct mail and available for free at partner institutions in major cities all over the world CAC Interviu is a leading source of information about art, cultural events, and cultural debate from post-soviet Europe (with a unique Lithuanian perspective). In concert with the acclaimed alternative broadcast project CAC TV — recently screened at unitednationsplaza and appearing in The Best Surprise is No Surprise — the journal aims to position the CAC at the forefront of institutional production, and keep art and writing produced in Lithuania in the international spotlight.

CAC is pleased to announce the release of issue # 6, in which we hone-in locally and engender debate about Lithuanian specific dilemmas that resonate for the broader eastern European region:
Andreas Gedin talks to Daniel Birnbaum about the opening of the new Portikus in Frankfurt. Firebrand Lithuanian artist Mindaugas Navakas aims trenchant critique at the state of pedagogy at the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts (sounding a clarion for the situation of art-teaching in the post-soviet). Lars Bang Larsen talks to Lithuanian artist Arturas Raila about his recent solo project at Frankfurter Kunstverein. Giedrius Gulbinas and Gabor Rieder review international conferences recently held in Lithuania addressing the state of Eastern European art history. Two local artists talk with each other about performative provocations that were shut-down by the authorities, while Virginija Januskeviciute tracks a third public art provocation that got away scot-free. A discussion reviewing senior critic and art historian Alfonsas Andriuskevicius’ new book reveals concerns within Lithuanian professional art circles. And by way of this issue’s artist project Gintaras Didziapetris writes a
love letter to Bethan Huws.
