«Comment se crée le sentiment d'appartenance? Comment en arrivons-nous àpercevoir un lieu pour enfin y appartenir?» Dans le projet Sensing Place,spurse fait valoir la complexité et le dynamisme des relations de forces,soient-elles humaines ou autres, qui existent dans la grande région deMontréal. Par le parrainage d'événements communautaires, spurse crée untemps d'arrêt, offre l'occasion de repenser, d¹imaginer et d'interagir avecun lieu de façon expérimentale en vue non pas de déterminer l'identité de celieu, mais de permettre à ce dernier de transformer les participants. Pouratteindre cet objectif, le collectif organise une série d'activitésdéambulatoires et d'échantillonnage en partance du nouveau site deDARE-DARE. Suivra l'élaboration d'une représentation psychogéographique deszones, ainsi qu'un événement/rencontre multimédia sur le sentimentd'appartenance, non pas fondé sur l'humanocentrisme, mais sur l'histoire, lagéographie et l'écologie.

spurse (www.spurse.org) est un collectif hybride à ramificationsinternationales qui touche à l¹art et à l¹architecture. spurse s¹intéresse àla reconstruction des lieux communs, par un examen de l¹urbanité avec uneapproche psycho-géographique. Parmis ses derniers projets, notons Mappingthe Working Waters durant lequel spurse a tenté une cartographie de la côtéatlantique du Maine (É-U) et The Interventionists: Art in the Social Sphereau Mass MoCA (Massachusetts, É-U).

Paul Bartow (Watkins Glen, New York et Austin, Texas), est diplômé enbeaux-arts et en architecture. Membre de spurse depuis 1997, il faitégalement partie du collectif Bartow + Metzgar avec l'artiste RichardMetzgar. Son travail en collaboration avec spurse, avec B+M, ou à titreindividuel a été présenté partout aux États-Unis.

Brian H. DeRosia (Portland, Maine), a étudié les arts visuels et lesbeaux-arts. Dans le cadre de son travail, il étudie le processus de créationdes traces et incorpore également des éléments tirés de ses expériences etintérêts personnels. Depuis peu, il crée des machines à dessiner quiproduisent des dessins à partir de lecteurs d'origine algorithmique. Il aparticipé à plusieurs projets de spurse.

Catherine D¹Ignazio alias kanarinka (Waltham, Massachusetts) a étudié lesbeaux-arts et les relations internationales et son travail de recherchecomporte des intérêts divers dont la cartographie critique, l'économiepolitique et les «infiniment petits». Elle a collaboré à la création deperformances, de logiciels, de conférences et d'installations avec,notamment, les groupes iKatun, Institute for Infinitely Small Things,glowlab et spurse. 

Iain Andrew Kerr (Portland, Maine), cofondateur de spurse, a étudié laphilosophie et l'architecture. En 2003, il était l'un des initiateurs duprojet That Word Which Means Smuggling Across Borders, Incorporated, uneexpérience où convergent l'architecture, le corps et l'habillement.Intéressé par la pratique architecturale, il collabore avec plusieurs petitscabinets de design.

Stan Pipkin (Houston, Texas) est concepteur en architecture et cofondateurde spurse. Par le biais de la recherche architecturale, il explore larelation entre la matérialité et la dynamique des lieux, et les stratégiesd'occupation. Il a recours aux techniques de cartographie, au designalgorithmique et aux principes du design durable. Au nombre de ses projetsen cours, notons le développement d'habitations à loyer modéré (Kenya),l'élaboration d'un concept d'habitation à consommation énergétique réduite(Texas), et un projet d'archivage des eaux à l'échelle mondiale.

DARE-DARE bénéficie du soutien de ses membres et de l'appui du Conseil desarts et des lettres du Québec, du Conseil des arts du Canada, du Conseil desarts de Montréal et de Belle Gueule. DARE-DARE est membre du Regroupementdes centres d¹artistes autogérés du Québec et du Regroupement des artsinterdisciplinaires du Québec. "How does a sense of place develop? How do we become part of a place?"Through the Sensing Place project, spurse seeks to highlight the complexdynamic relation between forces, both human and otherwise, in and aroundMontreal. The goal is to sponsor a series of community events to give anopportunity to pause, reflect, rethink, reimagine and engage with place inan experimental manner that does not seek to fix its identity but ratherallows the place to affect and change the participant. To reach its goal,the collective proposes a series of walks and collections starting fromDARE-DARE's new site through which psychogeographies of the zones will bedeveloped, and a multimedia event/meeting around a sense of place that isnot human-centric and that reflects the local history, geography andecology.

His ongoing interest inarchitectural practice has him participating in a number of small designpractices. 

Stan Pipkin (Houston, Texas) is a practicing architectural designer and isco-founder of spurse. His architectural investigations explore therelationship between the materiality and dynamics of place and thestrategies of occupation. His research projects use mapping techniques,algorithmic design and principles of sustainable design. Current projectsinclude the development of low-income housing in Kenya, research into zeroenergy home design in Texas and a global water archiving project.
