The Curator of Exhibitions and Collections operates at an advanced level, providing stewardship for the City’s permanent art collection. The Curator also assists in the research, development, and implementation of contemporary art exhibitions and related community programs and services for the Surrey Art Gallery.

You must display initiative and a positive attitude. Strong leadership, public relations and communication skills are vital in this role. You possess strong writing and public speaking skills and have experience working with boards and committees. Dedicated to community development, you are familiar with budget preparation, grant writing, administration, staff supervision and comfortable working alongside artists.

Experience in creative marketing is essential and previous experience as a museum/gallery Curator, as well as skills in community outreach, exhibit design/implementation and a proficiency in technology are recommended.

You must be a graduate from a recognized university program in a related discipline and have 3 - 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the delivery of cultural programs including facility management. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Technical expertise applicable to the specific role is required.

Reporting to the Library Director, and as a member of the management team, the Director, Dunlop Art Gallery (DAG) is responsible for the overall operations of the gallery and for the creative management of this unit within the mandate and policies approved by the Regina Public Library Board. The position’s areas of responsibility include exhibitions, public programs and education (such as lectures, workshops and film presentations), touring exhibitions, promotion and collection management of the RPL permanent collection, DAG Art Rental Collection and DAG Research Centre.

Located within the Regina Public Library, the Dunlop Art Gallery presents a wide and varied program which includes exhibitions, residencies, interpretive programs, community collaborations and scholarly publications. The DAG exhibits in two gallery spaces in two locations and actively participates with the vibrant and engaged Regina arts community.

This position requires a Master of Fine Arts degree from an accredited university program, or the equivalent combination of arts education and experience, and formal training in arts/culture management, as well as five to seven years of progressive experience in the field of arts management, preferably in gallery administration, and experience in the fields of Visual Arts, Art History, Communication Studies, Cultural Studies, Studio Art or a related discipline.

Salary is negotiable based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant. The Library does offer a highly competitive salary starting in the mid to high seventies.

The Climate Clock Initiative is a collaboration between FUSE: cadre/montalvo artist research residency initiative and the City of San Jose Public Art program in cooperation with ZERO1.

In the doctoral program there are four fields of specialization including Canadian & Aboriginal Art, Curatorial and Museological Studies, Architectural Studies, and Modern and Contemporary Art. Each is broadly conceived and students may incorporate research on non-Western topics, minority cultural practices and interdisciplinary issues and approaches. The four fields of study represent the significant areas of teaching and research strength of York’s Art History faculty, and provide a frame within which students can pursue
diverse theoretical and practical engagements in their study of art and visual culture.

The objective of the program is to prepare candidates for careers in art history and academia, as well as in publishing, curatorial practice, museology and arts administration.

Exhibition: Leaving Deep Water

In”The Site of Memory,”an essay written by the African American writer
Toni Morrison, water, as “flooding,” is linked to the flow of cultural
memory contained by images or pictures. Viscerally, water is also
considered a purifier in most religions around the world, and is often
believed to have spiritual powers. Colourless, tasteless and
odourless, this essential substance of all forms of life is both an
economic commodity and the source of many sociopolitical contentions
throughout historical ages. To explore the expansive metaphorical
nature of water, Galerie SAW Gallery invites submissions from artists
in Canada and the US, emerging or established, and from culturally
diverse communities.

The submitted works must demonstrate a strong intention in exploring
the nature of water as a metaphorical element, a medium, a material, a
site, or combination thereof. Works in drawing, painting, sculpture,
printmaking, photography, mixed media, installation, media art and
Internet-based art will be considered. Proposals from performance
artists are also welcome. The exhibition is scheduled to take place in
the spring of 2008. All selected artists will receive an exhibition
fee.

Please include: up to 10 images of your work (digital files, slides or
prints), an image list, a CV (max. 3 pages), an artist statement (max.
300 words) and a self-addressed stamped envelope (if applicable).
Please do not send original artwork. Submissions can be sent through

FINE ARTS TECHNICIAN I (SESSIONAL POSITION)

The University of Lethbridge Department of Art requires the services of a qualified Fine Arts Technician I. This is a Sessional full-time position (August 15 to June 15) commencing August 15, 2007.

Reporting to the Department of Art, Facilities Manager Art Studio, the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for the daily operation of the Department’s Studios and for regular, ongoing maintenance and repairs of the Department’s Studio Workshops and Teaching Facilities. The incumbent will be required to work alternate Saturdays, as well as shift work between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The incumbent will assist with the supervision and maintenance of the Fine Arts Studios and will be expected to work closely with students.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $3,118.00 - $3,648.00 per month.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate must have an undergraduate degree with a Fine Arts focus and at least 4 years prior related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate should have the ability to perform manual duties often requiring strenuous physical exertion. The incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of materials and processes related to Art Studio Practices. In addition she/he must be able to assist and clearly instruct students in the safe and efficient operation of a variety of different manual and mechanical tools related to art studio production. Knowledge of sculpture, printmaking, painting, and drawing are essential. Experience with woodworking and welding would be an asset.

The ability to maintain effective working relationships with all members of the University community, particularly students, is essential.

The Surrey Art Gallery’s Intern will assist staff in the production and curating of a new media art exhibitions working with computers, digital photography, sound and video.

This opportunity, supported by a grant from Young Canada Works, will introduce the Intern to the operation of a contemporary art museum, and programming art experiences for media artist with a particular focus on the needs and interests of youth (ages 15-30). Successful applicants will be interested in pursuing a career working with digital media and/or visual arts.

We are looking for individuals who are interested and excited by technology and its potential as an art media. Candidates should have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, advanced computer skills, aptitude for working with digital cameras and creating/maintaining websites, and can demonstrate the ability to plan and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Successful applicants must have experience working in teams and working effectively with youth and the public. Preference will be given to candidates that have fluency in other languages.

Work hours are generally between 9 and 5pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours.

Applicants must have recently graduated with a degree or diploma from a post secondary school in the areas of visual arts, digital media, interactive arts, communications or arts management. Applicants must be under 30 years of age at the start of employment. Recognizing that the ‘environment’ is contested terrain, both as a biophysical entity and as a philosophical frame, Planet in Focus invites submissions in all genres that critically examine the concept of ‘environment’ and challenge current human/nature relations.

The nations and regions included are Canada, Denmark/Greenland, the Russian Federation, Finland, Iceland, Sweden, United States, Norway and the Antarctic.

The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria is requesting submissions from artists
and curators for The LAB. The LAB is a contemporary art space within the
Art Gallery designed specifically for presenting challenging and dynamic
experimental projects. The Gallery welcomes all forms of media, performance
or innovative museological projects which involve the Gallery’s permanent
collection. Projects must be designed specifically for The LAB; existing
projects will not be considered. Artists will receive an exhibition fee as
well as project assistance up to $1500.
