FINE ARTS TECHNICIAN I (SESSIONAL POSITION)

The University of Lethbridge Department of Art requires the services of a qualified Fine Arts Technician I. This is a Sessional full-time position (August 15 to June 15) commencing August 15, 2007.

Reporting to the Department of Art, Facilities Manager Art Studio, the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for the daily operation of the Department’s Studios and for regular, ongoing maintenance and repairs of the Department’s Studio Workshops and Teaching Facilities. The incumbent will be required to work alternate Saturdays, as well as shift work between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The incumbent will assist with the supervision and maintenance of the Fine Arts Studios and will be expected to work closely with students.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $3,118.00 - $3,648.00 per month.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate must have an undergraduate degree with a Fine Arts focus and at least 4 years prior related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate should have the ability to perform manual duties often requiring strenuous physical exertion. The incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of materials and processes related to Art Studio Practices. In addition she/he must be able to assist and clearly instruct students in the safe and efficient operation of a variety of different manual and mechanical tools related to art studio production. Knowledge of sculpture, printmaking, painting, and drawing are essential. Experience with woodworking and welding would be an asset.

The ability to maintain effective working relationships with all members of the University community, particularly students, is essential.

Full -Time Job Opportunity Surrey Art Gallery Youth Intern

Are you interested in technology and visual art?

The Surrey Art Gallery’s Intern will assist staff in the production and curating of a new media art exhibitions working with computers, digital photography, sound and video.

This opportunity, supported by a grant from Young Canada Works, will introduce the Intern to the operation of a contemporary art museum, and programming art experiences for media artist with a particular focus on the needs and interests of youth (ages 15-30). Successful applicants will be interested in pursuing a career working with digital media and/or visual arts.

We are looking for individuals who are interested and excited by technology and its potential as an art media. Candidates should have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, advanced computer skills, aptitude for working with digital cameras and creating/maintaining websites, and can demonstrate the ability to plan and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Successful applicants must have experience working in teams and working effectively with youth and the public. Preference will be given to candidates that have fluency in other languages.

Work hours are generally between 9 and 5pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours.

Applicants must have recently graduated with a degree or diploma from a post secondary school in the areas of visual arts, digital media, interactive arts, communications or arts management. Applicants must be under 30 years of age at the start of employment. They must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents eligible to work in Canada, with a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Compensation: $19.33/hour
