Who is Eligible?

* a resident of the City of Toronto or an owner or tenant of land in Toronto or the spouse or same sex partner of such owner or tenant.

You are not eligible for appointment if you are:

Department of Visual Arts
One of Canada’s premier centres for the study and creation of visual art, York’s Visual Arts Department offers comprehensive programs of study in Art History and Studio Art, leading to the BA, BA Honours, BFA Honours, MA and MFA degrees. Studies courses span a wide range of visual cultures and traditions, including western and non-western art history, art criticism, theory and policy, and material and theme-based studies. Research resources include an outstanding collection of contemporary art by Canadian and international artists, a large visual image library, and the extensive art history holdings and visual arts archives of the York University Libraries. The Studio Art program encompasses intensive professional training in state-of-the-art facilities in all media: painting; drawing; photography; sculpture; print media; digital media; time-based arts.

The Art History and Studies program is committed to providing a critically informed curriculum to Art History, Studio, and non-major students. Applications are invited for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Art History, Modern Art, commencing July 1, 2007. The successful applicant will have a strong, proven commitment to research and scholarly publication. Applicants must also have the capacity to teach modern art (19th and 20th centuries) at all levels of the undergraduate and graduate programs. This capacity will be demonstrated through at least one year of university-level teaching and a record of success in that endeavour. The position will entail graduate supervision in the MA Art History program and in the proposed PhD program. The successful applicant will also be required to undertake administrative responsibilities in the undergraduate and graduate programs. Applicants must have completed a PhD in a relevant field. Applicants with demonstrated interdisciplinary and global interests are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate should be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Kungl. Konsthögskolan (KKH), Royal University College of Fine Arts, announces a professorship in fine arts with a specialisation in sculpture, object, installation (100 %), as vacant.

The education in fine arts is offered within a five year Masters program and within shorter programs for professional artists. The college also arranges two advanced programs in Architecture and Restoration arts.

For this professorship is required a qualified artistry, in which sculpture, object and installation appears as essential expressions. A good insight into contemporary art and a broad circle of contacts is also demanded.

The position as professor includes tutoring, research and development in the arts, to follow the development within the art field as well as in society in questions of importance for the college. Furthermore it also includes building up contacts and cooperating in various forms with the surrounding society, being a member of different decision-making bodies, and some administration.

To be qualified for an employment as professor in fine arts, the applicant must have shown both artistic and pedagogical skills.

KKH values the qualities of a balanced distribution according to sex, and an ethnical and cultural diversity.

The professorship is to begin at the earliest January 1, 2007. The employment is full time and appointed for a period of five years. KKH has the right to prolong this period with an additional five years, without the professorship being announced vacant.

The National Film Board in partnership with CBC Newsworld invites emerging filmmakers of colour to enter the 5th annual REEL DIVERSITY competition. Three promising filmmakers will be selected to direct their first professional documentary with the NFB followed by a national broadcast on CBC Newsworld’s The Lens. Proposals can be on any topic…we’re looking for passion, creativity, new perspectives, compelling characters and great storytelling.

Here’s how it works: Applicants from across Canada send in their proposals. Fifteen semi-finalists are short-listed to develop their ideas with an NFB producer, and up to 8 finalists get to attend a 3-day intensive training session. Three of these projects are then chosen for production and a national broadcast on CBC Newsworld’s The Lens.

Deadline for submissions is October 27, 2006.

The Institute of Contemporary Arts is a leading British arts centre with an exhibitions programme dedicated to innovation and excellence in contemporary art and to showcasing new directions in photography, architecture and design.

We are looking for a dynamic curator to lead a world class exhibitions programme. Working with the ICA’s Artistic Director you will create innovative, inspirational exhibitions that ask questions of, and seek to set the agenda for, contemporary art and culture in Britain. You will have a strong international network and a talent for curating authoritative shows that have strong appeal within the art world and with a wider audience. As well as an excellent knowledge of contemporary international art you will also have a good understanding of the current directions in photography, architecture and design. Joining an interdisciplinary arts organisation, you will also be expected to work collaboratively with other departments across the ICA in the development of cross-arts programming.

Individual artists or a team of artists are invited to enter a $60,000 open two-stage public art competition for a commission to create a permanent work or works of art commemorating the City of Kelowna’s Community Spirit.

This work is to be created through a collaborative, collective process, led by the artist(s), involving a broad cross-section of the community at large. Documentation of the process leading to the creation of the work, and exhibition of the documentary materials, are key components. Guidelines for community public art projects are included in the RFP package.

Artists are invited to enter a $40,000 open two-stage public art competition for a commission to create a permanent work or works of art to be installed within the Glenmore Linear Park system. This is the first City-commissioned public art project in the Glenmore area. The RFP proposes a number of potential sites. Artists may propose a single piece of work at a park focal point, or a series of thematically-related pieces spread through the park system. Proponents are encouraged to consider the Park’s sensitive ecology and the agricultural heritage of the Glenmore area.

Exhibition Coordinator

Dazibao, centre de photographies actuelles, is seeking applicants for the position of Exhibition Coordinator who will be in charge of the exhibition program logistics for the centre.

The ideal candidate should have a particular interest in photography and in-depth knowledge of contemporary artistic practices. She/he should also be versatile, possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and be able to work well both autonomously and as part of a team.

French/English bilingualism is essential.

Starting date: January 8, 2007.

Salary: $25,000 (minimum of 28h a week, 6 weeks vacation).
